What is the purpose of education? What knowledge systems do we draw from to inform our pedagogy and curriculum? These questions recur as we navigate our educational careers. This curiosity led us into a partnership focused on exploring alternative forms of knowledge, especially African indigenous knowledge systems, that can be implemented in the classroom. The goal of our directed reading is to explore alternative forms of knowledge that can enhance learning for diverse groups of learners.
This directed reading was done in partnership with an amazing colleague, education data science wiz, and friend of mine. Comprised of qualitative research, statistical analysis of native languages, and a presentation at the SAYWO conference at Stanford, our work gave us a great platform to understand indigenous knowledge systems from multiple lenses.
